Help and Advice

Struggling with reading undermines the whole of a person's education and stays with them long into adulthood. It can cause great embarrassment and low self esteem because many people assume that your reading problems mean you're unintelligent. This isn't true.

People with dyslexia often display enhanced creativity and 'big picture' thinking as well as strong holistic visual and spatial processing. Dyslexia is not caused by or related to a lack of intelligence. For many, the symptoms of dyslexia are caused by visual sequencing problems that cause words and letters to appear to move around and become blurred.

Understanding visual problems in dyslexia  is complicated. You can have dyslexia without visual problems and visual problems without dyslexia. Many young people still 'slip through the net' of widely used dyslexia tests despite having their potential inhibited by visual problems and as adults they may have no idea that they have visual problems with reading, which could easily be treated.
