Help and Advice

Struggling with reading impacts the whole of a person's education and can follow them long into adulthood. It can cause embarrassment and low self esteem because many people assume that reading problems are directly related to intelligence. This isn't true.

People with dyslexia often display enhanced creativity and 'big picture' thinking as well as strong holistic visual and spatial processing. Dyslexia is not caused by or related to a lack of intelligence. For many, the symptoms of dyslexia are caused by visual stress that causes words and letters to appear to move around and become blurred.

Understanding dyslexia and visual stress is complicated. You can have dyslexia without visual stress and visual stress without dyslexia. Many young people still 'slip through the net' of widely used dyslexia testing despite having their potential inhibited by visual stress and become adults who have no idea they may be suffering from visual stress.
